Happy Halloween!  Today, I bring you 5 Tips to Avoid a Frightful Candidate Experience with the help of my favorite Halloween movie, Young Frankenstein. From the top:

Dr. Frankenstein: “I am not a Frankenstein. I’m a Fronkensteen.”
Tip 1: Get personal! Know your applicants and how to pronounce their name. A little bit of effort goes a long way. By the way, my last name is Friemering, pronounced free-mer-ring, not “fri”.

Igor: “What hump?”
Tip 2: The obvious isn’t always so, and sometimes it keeps changing. Maintain a steady stream of communication, and provide thorough instructions throughout the process.

Igor: “There, wolf. There, castle.”
Dr. Frankenstein: “Why are you talking that way?”
Tip 3: Don’t underestimate! Provide applicants with opportunities to elaborate and supply more than A, B, C, or D. Utilize open-ended questions, and various data collection techniques to gather the best information…
